Maharashtra horror: Couple throws newborn out of moving bus, dies

PTC Web Desk:  In a tragic and disturbing incident, a young couple was arrested after allegedly throwing their newborn baby out of a moving private travel bus near Pathri town in Maharashtra's Parbhani district. The infant has died, the police confirmed. The accused have been identified as Ritika Dhere (19) and Altaf Shaikh (21), who claimed to be husband and wife. The couple was reportedly travelling from Pune to Parbhani when the incident took place early Tuesday morning, around 6.30 am.

According to preliminary investigation by the police, the woman went into labour onboard the bus and delivered the baby during the journey. Soon after childbirth, the couple allegedly decided to discard the newborn by throwing it out of the window as the bus neared the outskirts of Pathri.

A female co-passenger who witnessed the shocking act immediately alerted the police. The Parbhani police intercepted the bus and detained the couple, which is said to have been in a live-in inter-caste relationship.

The police have registered a case under Sections 94(3) and 94(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to the concealment of birth by secretly disposing of a dead body.

Ritika Dhere has been admitted to Parbhani Government Hospital for medical care following childbirth, while Altaf Shaikh remains in police custody.
