Viral: Mahindra Thar submerged in lake during off-roading near Delhi; pulled out by another SUV
PTC Web Desk: A weekend off-roading trip turned into a nightmare for a group of Mahindra Thar enthusiasts near Delhi when one of their SUVs got stuck in a lake. The vehicle had to be pulled out using another Thar 4x4.
The group, known as ‘Gang of Thars’, often ventures into the Aravalli hills near Gurugram and Faridabad. On Sunday, they decided to take their Thar through challenging terrain, including a lake. Unfortunately, one of the Thars got submerged.
Videos from the scene show the SUV partially underwater while the driver stands nearby with rolled-up jeans. The driver told a fellow enthusiast, “I’m glad I’m safe”, while the friend expressed surprise at how he managed to get out of the car.
People at the site were seen tying the submerged Thar to another SUV to pull it out. The Mahindra Thar weighs between 1,700 kg and 1,845 kg, making the recovery challenging. It is not clear how the accident happened or if anyone else was in the car.
Off-roading, which involves driving on unpaved surfaces like sand, mud, gravel, or rocks, is popular in the National Capital Region. However, Thars have often made headlines for reckless driving. Last month, a viral video showed a Thar being driven dangerously in Gurugram with a passenger standing on the side-step.
