Viral reel by Jasmin Jaffar sparks purification ritual at Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple
PTC Web Desk: A viral Instagram reel by influencer and former Bigg Boss Malayalam contestant Jasmin Jaffar has stirred controversy at the renowned Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple in Kerala, leading the temple authorities to undertake a six-day purification ritual.
The issue arose after Jasmin filmed herself in the temple’s sacred pond, dipping her feet in the holy water. The clip quickly spread online and attracted severe criticism from devotees and cultural groups, who condemned the act as disrespectful and against temple traditions.
Responding to the outrage, the Guruvayur Devaswom announced that a six-day purification process would be conducted, comprising 18 special pujas and 18 sheevelis. During this time, darshan for devotees will remain restricted.
Temple officials also lodged a formal complaint with the local police, citing a violation of temple protocol and a Kerala High Court directive that bans photography within sacred premises.
Amid the backlash, Jasmin Jaffar issued an apology, stating that her actions were unintentional and caused by ignorance of temple customs. She clarified that she did not intend to hurt the religious sentiments of devotees.
The Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple, dedicated to Lord Guruvayurappan, is one of the most revered Hindu shrines in Kerala, attracting lakhs of pilgrims each year.
