UP elections 2022: PM Modi vows to serve Varanasi till death, slams Akhilesh Yadav
Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh), February 27: Taking a dig at Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav for "wishing his death", Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stated that till his death neither will people of Kashi leave him nor will Kashi leave him.
While addressing 'BJP's Booth Vijay Samelan' in Varanasi, known as Kashi in ancient times, the Prime Minister said, "when I was publicly wished for my death in Kashi, I really felt very happy, my heart felt very relaxed. I felt that even my staunch opponents were seeing how much love the people of Kashi had for me. Those people have fulfilled my wish."
"This means that till my death neither the people of Kashi will leave me nor will Kashi leave me," he added.
PM Modi's remarks come in response to a statement by the SP chief after the inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in December 2021.
Earlier, Yadav had said that PM Modi should stay in Kashi for two to three months as "when the end nears, that's where one stays".
PM Modi went on to say that the party has honoured him for his merit by allowing him to serve Kashi while sitting at Mahadev's and Mother Ganga's feet.

"The BJP's workers serve the country. For all of us, the party has always come before the individual, and the country has always come before the party. We not only win elections, but we also win the hearts of the people," said the Prime Minister.
Talking about Varanasi's development, he stated that the city's growth trajectory will pave the road for the country to be free of poverty and crime.
The Prime Minister also paid his respects at Varanasi's Kashi Vishwanath temple.
Voting for the fifth phase of ongoing assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh ended on Sunday.
Polling for the remaining two phases will take place on March 3 and March 7, respectively.
The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
