Walt Disney Pledges $5 Million to rebuild Notre-Dame Cathedral
In the wake of a fire that caused damage to Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France, Walt Disney on Wednesday announced it will commit $5 million for the restoration effort.
“Notre-Dame is a beacon of hope and beauty that has defined the heart of Paris and the soul of France for centuries, inspiring awe and reverence for its art and architecture and for its enduring place in human history. The Walt Disney Company stands with our friends and neighbours in the community, offering our heartfelt support as well as a $5 million donation for the restoration of this irreplaceable masterpiece,” said Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company.
A major fire broke out in 800 years old Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on April 16. Both the roof of the cathedral and the wood-and-lead spire collapsed during the fire. It houses a few of the most coveted relics in Christianity, including the Holy Crown. Many believe that it belongs to the crown of thorns that was placed on the head of Jesus.
