Biden vows action on US troop deaths in Jordan; lawmakers urgently push 'hit Iran' | Key Points

PTC News Desk: In the aftermath of a drone attack that claimed the lives of three American soldiers near the Syrian border in northeast Jordan, President Joe Biden has pledged a robust response. The attack has been attributed to Iran-backed groups. Biden, speaking at a campaign event in South Carolina, expressed condolences and stated, "We had a tough day. Last night when we lost three brave soldiers in an attack on one of our bases. And I ask for a moment of silence. And we shall respond."

The President directly implicated Iran-backed groups in a subsequent statement, asserting that the United States "will hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner (of) our choosing." This marks the first lethal strike against US forces since the Israel-Hamas war in October.

Meanwhile, Republican Senators have criticised the Biden administration for its response, urging a more forceful military reaction without delay. They argue that the existing US policy of conducting airstrikes against Iranian proxy groups has proven ineffective in preventing such attacks. The call for a stronger stance against Iran adds to the escalating tensions in the region.
