Iran Helicopter Crash | Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azarbaijan Gov. Malek Rahmati, East Azarbaijan Imam of Friday Prayer Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, & several other passengers killed in a horrific helicopter crash as it was crossing mountain terrain in heavy fog on Sunday afternoon. 

Confirming the news, Iran's Press TV tweets, "President Raeisi, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azarbaijan Gov. Malek Rahmati, East Azarbaijan Imam of Friday Prayer Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, & several other passengers, has been martyred in a helicopter crash in northwest of Iran."


All About Iran Helicopter Crash | IN POINTS 

  • President Ebrahim Raisi was travelling back to Iran following a visit to Azerbaijan when his helicopter crashed in bad weather conditions on Sunday afternoon.
  • On board the chopper were Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, Hojjatoleslam Al Hashem, the head of the Friday prayer in Tabriz, Malek Rahmati, the governor of the province of East Azarbaijan, and several others.
  • Following the incident of helicopter crash on Sunday and intensifying the searches, the helicopter was located after 10 hours and that too "completely burned" in the crash with "no sign of life"
  • Over 73 rescue teams helped in the search area of the helicopter in Tawal village with advanced and specialized equipment.
  • As the Iranian rescue teams located Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter, Iran-based media reported no clue of any living persons has been reported in the crash. 

  • According to Turkish media sources, an Akinci UAV identified a source of heat suspected to be the wreckage of a helicopter carrying Raisi and shared its coordinates with Iranian authorities.
  • Several countries have come forward to help in the ongoing search operations.
