Michigan State University Shooting: 3 dead, suspect seen fleeing

PTC News desk, February 14: At an unfortunate shooting incident on Monday night, atleast three people were killed and five severely injured after a miscreant open fired at Michigan State University. Police said, the law enforcement swarmed the main campus in East Lansing searching for a lone suspect.

While investigating there are few details about the violence has been gathered. Chris Rozman, interim deputy chief of the university police, said shots were fired from two different locations - at an academic building called Berkey Hall and the Michigan State University Union building.

According to reports from police, the shooting began shortly after 8 p.m. The victim was found at both the locations. He also later gave details saying that there are atleast five victims who are severely injured and are immediately sent to the hospital, some of them with life-threatening injuries, and MSU police issued an update by Twitter a short time later saying that at least three additional people had been killed.

After much long when the gun-firing took place, the other campus buildings were cleared and police took full control of the situation. The officers searched and swept the campus in search of victims and a single suspect, MSU police said.

Police is still continuing the man-hunt, as it is described the suspect is short male wearing a mask, was last seen fleeing the MSU Union building on foot, Rozman said.

Michigan State University is one of the major public institution of higher education whose flagship East Lansing campus accounts for 50,000 graduate and undergraduate students. University police said Monday night that all classes and campus activities would be canceled for the next 48 hours.

Monday night's violence came roughly 14 months after a deadly mass shooting on Nov. 30, 2021, at Oxford High School in Oakland County, Michigan, about 80 miles east of East Lansing, in which a 15-year-old student opened fire with a semi-automatic pistol.

Four classmates were killed and six other students and a teacher were wounded in that attack, the deadliest U.S. school shooting that year.
