'They're in danger': Mumbai woman in Pakistan refuses to leave without her sons

PTC News Desk: A Mumbai woman fighting for custody of her children in Pakistan, has refused to return to her home country, citing concerns for her children's safety.

Indian citizen Farzana Begum married Mirza Mubin Elahi, a Pakistani citizen, in Abu Dhabi in 2015. Later, the couple moved to Pakistan in 2018 and has two sons, ages seven and six.

Farzana's case made headlines after she allegedly tortured her husband over a custody dispute involving her sons and some properties in their names. Farzana refutes her husband's claims that he divorced her, saying, "If he divorced me, there must be a certificate."

"Me and my children's lives are in danger in Pakistan due to a property dispute. I am confined to my house in Rehman Gardens, Lahore, and my children are going hungry," she explained.

Farzana urged Pakistan's government to provide her with protection until the case was resolved, refusing to return to her home country without her sons. "My sons own a few properties in Lahore. My husband has my and my children's passports," she added.

Farzana is Mubin Elahi's second wife.

Elahi already has a Pakistani wife and children, whom Farzana accuses of plotting to bully and intimidate her into returning to India and seizing properties that she claims belong to her two sons.

Farzana's lawyer, Advocate Mohsin Abbas, stated that "Mubin Elahi is spreading false rumours that Farzana's visa had expired even though her passport was in his possession."

The case has become the talk of the town because Farzana is unclear about the status of her visa and is certain that she will not leave without her sons. "I would never return to India without my sons," Farzana stated.
