PTC Web Desk: An Air India flight travelling from Phuket, Thailand, to Delhi encountered severe turbulence, briefly losing around 300 feet in altitude before landing safely in the national capital. The incident left at least 12 passengers with minor injuries, while videos showing damage inside the aircraft have gone viral on social media. The flight, AI2379, was operated by an Airbus A320.

Aircraft briefly lost altitude before landing

According to data from flight-tracking platform Flightradar24, the aircraft experienced a sudden drop in altitude shortly before its arrival in Delhi. Despite the turbulence, the flight landed safely and all passengers and crew members were able to disembark without any major complications.

Injured passengers taken for medical care

Air India confirmed the incident in an official statement saying that the injured passengers received immediate medical attention after landing. "The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain Air India's highest priority. We are providing all necessary support to those affected and are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities as part of the investigation," an Air India spokesperson said.

Cabin damage videos circulate online

Videos recorded inside the aircraft have been widely shared on social media. The footage appears to show cracks in the cabin ceiling, reportedly caused during the intense turbulence. The airline has not officially confirmed the exact cause of the visible damage, but the incident has sparked widespread discussion online.

Passenger describes terrifying moments

A passenger who was on board the flight told ANI that the turbulence struck around 90 minutes after take-off, when many passengers were asleep. According to the passenger, the aircraft suddenly dropped and swayed violently for nearly two to three minutes, causing panic inside the cabin. He claimed that several passengers suffered injuries during the ordeal and alleged that legal action would be initiated against Air India over the incident.

Similar incident last year

The latest turbulence scare comes more than a year after an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Srinagar encountered a powerful hailstorm while approaching Srinagar airport. That aircraft suffered damage to its nose cone during landing, while videos from inside the cabin showed frightened passengers praying as the aircraft shook violently in severe weather.
