Princess of Wales Kate Middleton reveals she has been diagnosed with cancer, requests privacy

Kate Middleton has cancer: Princess of Wales Kate Middleton also known as Catherine Elizabeth Middleton – a prominent member of the British royal family and wife of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge revealed that she has been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

Posting a video message on her social media on Friday, Duchess of Cambridge revealed that she underwent significant abdominal surgery in January, which was deemed successful. However, tests conducted after the procedure revealed the presence of cancer.

The announcement followed months of speculation regarding the 42-year-old princess' health and controversy surrounding altered images released by Kensington Palace.

This development adds to the recent surprises for the British Royal Family, following the news of King Charles III being diagnosed with cancer. Reports indicated that he was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer discovered during a procedure for a non-cancerous enlarged prostate.

In a video message posted on her social media handle, Princess of Wales said, "I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery."

Adding that it has been an "incredibly tough couple of months" for the entire family, Kate Middleton said, "In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

The Princess of Wales expressed that the news came as a surprise to the entire family and conveyed gratitude for the love and support extended by her husband, Prince William, and others.

"As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK," she further said.

She asked for time, space, and privacy during her cancer treatment, while also sending her well wishes to others battling the disease.

"We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery," the Duchess said.
