Selfies, slogans and songs: This is how Indian diaspora in Paris welcomed Prime Minister Modi

PM Modi in Paris: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paris on Thursday afternoon to a rousing welcome from the Indian diaspora.

They greeted PM Modi warmly, raising slogans such as "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" and "Vandey Matram." Many people were seen taking selfies with PM Modi, while others sang songs and gave him gifts.


People from all faiths and walks of life flocked to the hotel in Paris to show their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

An Indian woman dedicated a song to PM Modi and even became emotional when taking a selfie with him.

Following PM Modi's arrival, MEA spokesperson Bagchi stated in a video message, "PM Narendra Modi has just touched down on his visit to France."

“Behind me, in a very special gesture the Prime Minister of France, Elisabeth Borne has come personally to the airport to receive the Prime Minister in a visit that's just about 36 hours,” he added.

He elaborated on PM Modi's programme, saying: “Prime Minister will lead the leaders, presidents of the Senate and the National Assembly….President Macron, who is the principal host, is organising a private dinner today evening with formal talks tomorrow.”

“There is of course the main event the Bastille Day celebration which both Prime Ministers will attend later in the evening. Tomorrow there's a state banquet as well as inter with the CEOs and other personalities,” said Bagchi.

In a special gesture, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne met PM Modi at the airport.

Prime Minister Modi was greeted with a ceremonial welcome and a guard of honour.

PM’s intensive programme in Paris includes participation in the Bastille Day celebrations & a slew of engagements with the French leadership, Indian diaspora, CEOs and prominent personalities,” tweeted a Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson.

Many members of the Indian community had gathered outside the hotel in Paris.

On the invitation of France's President, Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Modi will join the Bastille Day Parade as a Guest of Honour. This visit also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the India-France Strategic Partnership.
