Sweden’s new health minister Elisabet Lann collapses during first press conference; incident caught on camera | Watch
PTC Web Desk: Just hours after taking charge, Sweden’s newly appointed Health Minister Elisabet Lann collapsed on stage during a press conference on Tuesday. The 48-year-old was standing beside Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Christian Democrats leader Ebba Busch when the incident occurred.
Footage circulating on social media shows Elisabet Lann suddenly leaning forward, falling against a transparent lectern, and collapsing onto the floor.
Busch immediately rushed to assist her, turning her over as security staff and reporters gathered to help. Lann appeared unconscious for a few moments before being escorted away by officials. She later returned to the briefing, stating the collapse was due to a sudden drop in blood sugar.

“This was not exactly a normal Tuesday, but this can happen when your blood sugar falls,” she explained. Shortly after, she exited the room again and did not continue with the session. It remains unclear whether she received formal medical treatment, though she appeared to recover without major injury.
The press conference, which was scheduled to continue with a Q&A, was called off after the episode.
Lann officially took over as Health Minister the same day, following the resignation of Acko Ankarberg Johansson, who had held the post for three years. A long-time Christian Democrats member, Lann earlier served as a municipal councillor in Gothenburg since 2019. Her professional background includes a master’s degree in peace and development studies and political science, as well as roles in the Cabinet Office and the Health Care Responsibility Inquiry.
