US-Iran conflict: US launches fresh strikes after alleged ceasefire violation | Five major developments in last 24 hours
US-Iran conflict update: The US-Iran conflict intensified on Friday after the United States carried out airstrikes on Iranian military targets, claiming Tehran had violated the ceasefire. The strikes reportedly lasted for nearly an hour and targeted missile and drone facilities as well as coastal radar sites.
The US-Iran conflict entered a new phase after US President Donald Trump said the military action was a response to Iran's alleged breach of the ceasefire agreement. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Iran launched a drone attack on the Singapore-flagged cargo vessel MV Ever Lovely in the Strait of Hormuz on June 25.
The latest US-Iran conflict has further increased tensions across the Middle East, even as diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran continue. Meanwhile, Iran has claimed that its forces responded by targeting US military positions in the region.
According to CENTCOM, the US military targeted Iranian missile launch sites, drone facilities and radar installations following what it described as an Iranian drone attack on a commercial cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
President Donald Trump said the United States acted after Iran violated the ceasefire and stressed that Washington would respond firmly to any further attacks on American interests.
Iranian state media reported that the US strikes caused no significant damage. According to a news agency, officials at Sirik Port in Hormozgan province said port operations continued normally after the attack.
Authorities stated that no port infrastructure or equipment was damaged, despite earlier reports of explosions in the area.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Navy claimed it carried out retaliatory strikes against US military positions in the region.
Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi accused the United States of attacking Iran while diplomatic discussions were underway. In a post on X, he said the alleged ceasefire violation would ultimately have consequences for Washington.
Iran targets NATO countries with fresh accusations
Iran accused NATO member states of supporting US and Israeli military operations. The Iranian Foreign Ministry called on these countries to explain their role in the recent attacks.
Attack on cargo ship raises maritime security concerns
A cargo vessel near the Strait of Hormuz was reportedly attacked by an unidentified weapon, damaging the ship's bridge. No casualties were reported. Following the incident, the United Nations temporarily suspended an evacuation operation involving around 11,000 seafarers in the region.
Tensions up along Lebanon border
The Israeli military issued evacuation warnings for residents in southern Lebanon's Al-Mansouri area. Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem reiterated that Israel must completely withdraw from Lebanese territory and ruled out any normalization of relations.
US-Iran nuclear talks continue
Despite the military escalation, technical-level discussions between the United States and Iran have concluded with both sides agreeing to establish four joint committees. Officials aim to prepare a roadmap for a final agreement within 60 days.
Russia also indicated that it would support any final agreement at the United Nations Security Council if both sides reach a consensus.
Nuclear inspections and oil market under watch
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced that its inspectors are expected to visit Iran's nuclear facilities soon.
Meanwhile, renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz pushed global crude oil prices higher. India also announced the removal of restrictions on commercial LPG supplies to ensure stable domestic availability.
Meanwhile, the latest military exchange has added fresh uncertainty to an already volatile Middle East. While diplomatic negotiations between the US and Iran remain ongoing, continued military activity and growing regional tensions have raised concerns about the possibility of further escalation in the coming days.
