US issues notice imposing additional 25% tariffs effective August 27
PTC News Desk: The Trump administration has officially issued a notice imposing additional 25 per cent tariffs on imports from India, with the new duties set to take effect at 12:01 am (EST) on August 27.
The notice, issued by the Department of Homeland Security, stated the new levies were in response to "threats to the United States by the Government of the Russian Federation," and India was being targeted as part of that policy.
The directive instructed US agencies to counter “threats to the United States posed by the Russian government,” which includes imposing new duties on India as part of this strategy. Without directly naming the US or Trump, Prime Minister Modi remarked, “Today, we see policies around the world driven by economic selfishness.”
TRUMP TARGETS RUSSIA’S TRADING ALLIES
US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of imposing additional tariffs on nations trading with Russia or introducing further sanctions on Moscow if no agreement is reached.
He cautioned of “very big consequences” in the coming weeks without progress.
So far, the US has refrained from applying similar measures to other major buyers of Russian oil, such as China.
