8-year-old girl raped by minor brother in Delhi An eight-year-old girl was raped by her elder brother in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar, the police said on Wednesday. The brother who is also a minor, forced himself on her while their parents were away. The parents returned home in the evening and found the girl bleeding profusely and rushed her to a nearby hospital immediately. The boy has been detained by the police and further investigation is on, a police official said. “She sustained severe injuries and had to undergo a major operation. Currently, she is in a serious condition,” Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal said. The DCW said it will support the girl’s treatment and file a case to seek compensation for her as she belongs to a poor family. “Crimes against women and girls are on a rise in the country and concerted steps have to be taken by governments against them,” Maliwal said. More than two child rape cases are reported in the national capital every day. Till April 30, 282 cases of child rape were reported compared to 278 last year during the same period, as per the Delhi Police Data. -PTC News
