4 killed, several others injured in blast at Cochin Shipyard

At least four people were killed and 11 others injured in a blast at the Cochin Shipyard on Tuesday.

According to reports, the blast took place around 10:45 am onboard Sagar Bhushan, an Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) drilling ship, that was berthed for repair.

At least three people are reported to be trapped inside the ship. The oil tank of the ship burst while carrying out the repair.

 

Cochin Shipyard is a public sector undertaking engaged in shipbuilding and ship-repair.

The yard repairs the largest vessels in India, including ships of the oil exploration industry, the Indian Navy, the Coast Guard, and merchant ships of the ONGC.
