BSF detects drone near international border in J-K

Jammu, June 9: Alert Border Security Force (BSF) troops fired at a drone spotted close to the international border in Jammu and Kashmir's Arnia sector on Thursday.

The drone returned after the BSF troops fired on it after sighting it at around 4.15 am.

"This morning at about 0415 am a blinking light suspected to be a drone observed in Arnia area. Alert BSF troops fired at it due to which it returned back," BSF said.

According to the force, the drone was flying at a height of roughly 300 metres.

As per officials in the force, this was drone activity from the Pakistani side in Arnia, and similar activities have been reported in the past.

The BSF, which is responsible for guarding the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders, has launched a joint search operation in the area.

Similar drone activity was observed at the international border in Jammu on May 15 and February 24, prompting the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police to undertake a cordon-and-search operation and seize a consignment air-dropped by a drone.

Three remote-controlled IEDs, detonators, three explosive bottles, one bundle of Cordtex wire, two IED timers, one pistol, two magazines, six grenades, and 70 rounds were included in the consignment.
