PTC Web Desk: Tragedy struck a mosque in Ajmer, Rajasthan, where a cleric, identified as Mohammad Mahir, fell victim to a brutal attack allegedly carried out by three masked assailants. The incident was reported on Saturday on the premises of the mosque located in Ramganj's Kanchan Nagar, where Mahir was resting alongside six children.

According to reports, the assailants allegedly forcefully entered the mosque premises and launched a vicious assault on the 30-year-old cleric using sticks. The attack, carried out in the dead of night, sent shockwaves through the local community. The terrified children present in the mosque during the harrowing ordeal raised alarm by screaming for help, only to be met with further intimidation from the perpetrators, who also confiscated Mahir's cellphone to prevent any attempts to seek assistance.

Following the assailants' departure, the traumatised children came out from the mosque and sought help from nearby residents. However, despite the swift response from the community, the attackers had already fled the scene by the time help arrived. The police have launched a thorough investigation into the incident, but as of now, no arrests have been made. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime.

CCTV footage from the vicinity is being scrutinised to gather crucial evidence that may shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
