PTC News Desk: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) recovered 173 kg of narcotics from an Indian fishing boat off the Gujarat coast and detained two crew members, an official informed on Monday.

The ICG and Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) captured the fishing boat in a joint operation on the high seas on Sunday afternoon, according to a coast guard release in Ahmedabad.

According to official authorities, a total of 173 kilogrammes of hashish (derived from cannabis) and two Indians were apprehended as part of a joint operation.

"Based on specific and credible intelligence inputs from the ATS, the ICG strategically deployed its ships and aircraft, ensuring that the boat does not evade the sea-air coordinated surveillance," according to the release.

The boat was caught after being properly identified, and investigations revealed that the two accused were involved in the smuggling of around 173 kg of drugs, according to the report.

"This operation is the ICG's 12th apprehension in the last three years and a testimony of coordination and success of joint efforts of ICG and ATS Gujarat for appropriate response to drug trafficking through seas."
