Jammu and Kashmir: An avalanche struck the Sarbal area of Sonamarg in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district on Monday amid heavy rain and snowfall.

The  avalanche was captured in the chilling video, barreling down a snow-covered mountainside. 


No casualties or financial losses were reported since the avalanche struck the Sonamarg area on the forest side, thus resulting in no damage, said officials.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has set off landslides in various regions of Jammu and Kashmir resulting in shutdown of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Due to heavy rainfall and snowfall roads and highways interlinked to Mehar, Gangroo, Mom Passi, and Kishtwari Pather in Ramban district also faced blockages. 

Moreover, on Sunday, a total of 35 vehicles stuck in the snow at Razdan Top on the Bandipora-Gurez road in Jammu and Kashmir 

On April 27, Pernote village, located approximately six kilometres from Ramban town in Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed heavy damage to roads, houses and power towers due to continuous landslides.

Over the past 72 hours, incessant rainfall has led to a rise in water levels across all rivers, lakes, and streams in Kashmir. The Meteorological (MeT) office has confirmed that these conditions are expected to persist for few days. 

As a precautionary measure, several schools situated in regions vulnerable to flooding and landslides have been closed.
