Covid-19: Delhi reports 258 fresh cases in last 24 hours

Delhi Covid Update: Delhi reported 258 fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday, informed the city health bulletin. The national capital also witnessed 499 recoveries on the day.

With the newly reported Covid cases, the active caseload in Delhi was recorded at 1,845 on Monday, while the positivity rate was at 0.71%, according to an update by the government.

On Sunday, the city had recorded 484 new cases.

No Covid-related fatalities have been reported from Delhi in the last 24 hours.

Sharp dip in Covid cases

The total number of cases in the national capital now stands at 18,59,892. According to the health update, the death toll in Delhi stands at 26,122. Meanwhile, the number of tests conducted a day ago stood at 36,584.

After reaching a record high of 28,867 daily cases on January 13, the number of daily cases in Delhi has been declining. On January 14, the city reported a positive rate of 30.6 percent, the highest during the pandemic's current wave.

However, now Delhi has lifted all Covid-related restrictions. The decision to lift the Covid curbs was made during a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) last week, which was chaired by Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.

Further, the DDMA has announced that schools will function only in offline mode from 1 April.

The Delhi government has also announced that wearing a mask is not mandatory while travelling in private vehicles. As per the Covid update by the Delhi government, the penalty for not wearing face masks in public places has also been reduced from Rs 2,000 to Rs 500.

Notably, the Covid restrictions were imposed in December last year after the coronavirus infections had started increasing rapidly in the capital.
