PTC Web Desk: A 17-year-old Class 12 student was murdered allegedly by her own father in Hoshiarpur on Thursday morning. The man attacked her with a kirpan and ran away from the spot.
The incident took place at Dhut Kalan village under the Haryana police station area. The girl, Inderpreet Kaur, was a student of Government School in Dhut Kalan.
The police were informed around 7.15 am. A team from the Haryana police station reached the spot, took the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem.
DSP (Dehati) Narinder Singh said a case had been registered on the statement of the girl’s mother, Baljit Kaur. Early investigation suggests the accused was unhappy that he did not have a son. “He used to say she was his only daughter and this bothered him,” the DSP said.
He added that the accused had already fled before the police arrived. A search is on.
The girl’s maternal uncle, Manjit Singh, said the accused had always wanted a son. “We never thought he would do something like this. We want him arrested quickly and punished,” he said.
