Returned from Australia just two days earlier, Ludhiana man stabs wife to death over suspicion of infidelity
A 50-year-old man who came back from Australia on Oct 29 allegedly stabbed his wife to death in Ludhiana over suspicion about her character. He is in custody
PTC Web Desk: A 50-year-old man who had just returned home from Australia has been arrested in Ludhiana for allegedly stabbing his wife to death. The police say he acted out of suspicion about her character. Officials shared details of the case on Monday.
The victim, Kamaldeep Kaur, was 49. Her husband, Ravinder Singh, drives a pick-up van in the city. The attack took place late on Saturday evening at their house in Vikas Nagar, off Pakhowal Road.
According to the police, the couple had travelled to Australia, where their younger son lives. Kamaldeep came back to Ludhiana about four months ago, while Ravinder only landed on October 29. Their elder son, Gagandeep Singh, lives in the family’s Ludhiana home.
Gagandeep told the police that he had noticed no arguments or tension between his parents after his father came back. On Saturday evening, his father asked him to go to a nearby market to buy milk.
When Gagandeep returned, he saw his father hurrying out of the house. Ravinder told him to go inside and look. Gagandeep found his mother lying on the bed covered in blood, with several stab wounds on her stomach and neck. He called out for help and with the help of neighbours he rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The police said Ravinder used a knife from the kitchen. Before leaving, he washed it and put it back, apparently to destroy evidence.
Station House Officer (SHO) Gurmukh Singh said early findings point to suspicion about his wife’s character as the motive. He added that the attack appeared to be planned. “He carried it out within two days of coming back, so we suspect he returned with the intention to kill her,” the officer said. The knife has been seized.
A murder case has been registered at Dugri police station. Ravinder Singh is in custody, and questioning is continuing.
