Aamir Khan reveals, Drank almost a bottle a night after divorce with Reena Dutta
Aamir Khan opens up about his emotional struggle after divorce from Reena Dutta, revealing, “I couldn’t handle my emotions… I drank almost a bottle a night,” calling it an extreme turning point in his life.
Actor Aamir Khan has candidly spoken about a deeply challenging chapter in his life, recalling the emotional impact of his separation from his first wife, Reena Dutta. The actor revealed that the period left him feeling isolated and overwhelmed, leading to a drastic change in his lifestyle.
Reflecting on the moment Reena left with their children, Aamir shared how difficult it was for him to cope with the sudden emptiness.

He admitted that the experience marked the first time he turned to alcohol, despite never having been inclined towards it earlier. “I was a teetotaller until I went through my first divorce with Reena. And then, on the first day when she left with the kids and I was alone at home, I couldn’t handle my emotions at that time. I had never, I used to never drink alcohol. I had drunk once or twice for a couple of scenes, but that was only because I had to drink for the scene. I mean, I was not into alcohol at all.”
Describing how the situation escalated, he added, “That night, I had alcohol at home to serve guests and all that, so I started drinking. And for the next one and a half years, I drank almost a bottle a night. Now that’s really extreme, from a person who was a teetotaller to someone who consumes a bottle a night is very extreme.”
The actor has previously addressed the emotional strain of the separation during an appearance on Koffee with Karan. Speaking about the end of their marriage, he said, “Reena and I were married for 16 long years. When we split up, it was traumatic for us and our families. We tried to deal with the situation as best as we could. Reena and I did not lose love or respect for each other post our split.”
Aamir and Reena’s relationship dates back to their early years as neighbours, long before he rose to fame. They married in 1986, and Reena briefly appeared in his debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. The couple eventually separated in 2002 and share two children, Junaid and Ira.
Following this, Aamir married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005. The two later parted ways in 2021 but continue to co-parent their son, Azad. Meanwhile, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, Aamir introduced Gauri Spratt to the media in Mumbai, whom he is currently dating and ever since then, the two have been spotted together several times.
