Faridkot: Former SSP Charanjit Sharma sent to judicial for 14 days

Former SSP Charanjit Sharma was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days by a Faridkot Court on Thursday. Charanjit Sharma was arrested by SIT in Behbal Kalan firing case. He has appealed to the court not to keep him in any Faridkot or Ferozepore jail.

It may be recalled that former SSP Charanjit Sharma Sharma was found guilty in Behbal Kalan Firing case. The court first sentenced him to undergo 8 days in remand. After it got over, the court sent him to judicial remand for 14 days.

On January 27, former Moga SSP Charanjit Singh Sharma was arrested by SIT in the Behbal Kalan firing incident in which two protestors were killed on October 11, 2015.

According to media reports, he was arrested from his house in Hoshiarpur. The Special Investigation Team arrested him during the ‘raid’ that took place in the early hours of January 27.

The SIT was formed after the deaths of two protesters in the police firing at Behbal Kalan on October 11, 2015. The deaths resulted in statewide outrage against the then SAD-BJP government. Charanjit was leading a police party that allegedly opened fire at the protesters.
