PTC News Desk: As the festival of Holi approaches on March 25, revelers eagerly anticipate the vibrant celebration, marked by the playful splashing of coloured powders and water. However, amidst the joyous festivities, it's crucial to prioritise skincare to shield your skin from potential irritation and allergies caused by the harsh chemicals and dyes present in Holi colours.

While the colourful revelry adds to the festive spirit, prolonged exposure to these colors, combined with sunlight and sweat, can lead to skin damage, sunburn, and clogged pores, resulting in breakouts and other skin concerns. Therefore, adopting a proactive skincare routine before and after Holi is essential to maintain healthy and radiant skin.

Here are some expert-recommended skincare tips to ensure your skin stays protected and nourished throughout the Holi celebrations:

Pre-Holi Skincare:

1. Hydrate: Start by drinking plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from within.
2. Moisturise: Apply a generous amount of moisturizer to create a barrier between your skin and the colors.
3. Oil Massage: Massage your body with coconut or almond oil to create a protective layer that makes it easier to remove colors later.
4. Nail Care: Apply a dark-colored nail polish to prevent colors from staining your nails.

Post-Holi Skincare:

1. Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser to remove the colors without stripping your skin of its natural oils.
2. Moisturise: Replenish lost moisture by applying a nourishing moisturiser to soothe your skin. Moisturise your skin promptly after bathing while it's slightly damp to lock in moisture.
3. Exfoliate: Use a mild exfoliator to slough off dead skin cells and reveal a fresh layer of skin.
4. Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to shield your skin from harmful UV rays, especially if you'll be spending time outdoors post-Holi.
5. Rinse off colors gently with lukewarm water immediately after the festivities.
6. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing your skin vigorously to remove colors.
7. Refrain from using products containing retinol, glycolic acid, kojic acid, or Vitamin C on your face immediately after playing with colors, as they may exacerbate skin sensitivity. Resume usage after 4 to 5 days, and in the meantime, stick to moisturiser and sunscreen.
If irritation occurs, soothe and heal your skin with plain coconut oil or aloe vera gel.

By following these pre and post-Holi skincare tips, you can enjoy the festivities while keeping your skin healthy and glowing throughout the celebration.
