Go for alternative fuel: Nitin Gadkari on hike in petrol, diesel prices in India

Amid hike in petrol and diesel prices in India, the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari asked people to go for alternative fuel.

"My suggestion is that this is the time for the country to go for alternative fuel," said Nitin Gadkari on a hike in petrol and diesel prices in India.

"I'm already propagating electricity as a fuel because India has surplus electricity," Gadkari said on increasing fuel prices.

He further said that "We're making 81 per cent of lithium-ion batteries in India." "My ministry took initiative today to get an alternative for lithium-ion," he said.

Adding, he said that all concerning Government laboratories were conducting research. The Ministry was also trying to develop hydrogen fuel cells, he added.

The state-controlled oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Tuesday increased the petrol price by 26-30 paise per litre and diesel by 33-38 paise per litre across major cities of the country.

Earlier, the Union Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan ruled out the possibility of a cut in taxes on fuels to reduce prices.
