Senior Akali leader GS Babbehali’s son Amarjot Singh was attacked by unidentified miscreants at Babbehali village of Gurdaspur today, leaving him critically injured. Two of his friends — Sikandar Singh and Gagan Harpreet Singh were also targeted during the murderous assault following which they were rushed to an Amritsar hospital. Amarjot blamed sitting Congress MLA Barindermeet Singh Pahra for instigating his party workers to use firearms and sharp-edged weapons. Eyewitnesses said Amarjot and his friends were driving out of the village when another car blocked their way. Three unidentified persons reportedly alighted from the vehicle and started firing. Later, they used sharp-edged weapons to inflict injuries on Amarjot and his friends before fleeing the spot. “We are investigating the sequence of events that led to the attack. A case will be registered only after DSP Ajay Pal Singh confirms the facts,” the SSP said.
