Lok Sabha Elections 2024: EC reschedules voting in J&K's Anantnag-Rajouri

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The Election Commission of India has rescheduled the Lok Sabha election for Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag-Rajouri. The polling will now take place on May 25, instead of the previously scheduled May 7.

The rescheduling comes as the Election Commission received various representations from different political parties for the shifting of the election dates “due to various logistic, communication and the natural barrier of connectivity turning out as hindrance in campaigning which in turn tantamount to lack of fair opportunities for the contesting candidates in the said parliamentary constituency which may affect poll process.”

Anantnag-Rajouri was originally scheduled to vote in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections, but will now vote on May 25, which is the sixth phase.

The poll panel had asked that the Jammu and Kashmir administration quickly submit a detailed report on road conditions, weather, and accessibility to the region, which includes sections of South Kashmir as well as Poonch and Rajouri in the Jammu region.
