Punjab BJP leader Bony Ajnala sparks controversy with 'derogatory remarks' on Sikh beliefs; tenders apology

PTC Web Desk: BJP leader Amarpal Singh Bony Ajnala has sparked controversy by making derogatory remarks against Sikh beliefs. During an election meeting, Bony Ajnala allegedly compared Sikh religion to Christianity, stating that "Sikhism is inferior". The video of his statement is rapidly circulating on social media platforms.

This controversial statement was made by Amarpal Singh Bony Ajnala during a gathering in Amritsar, where he was campaigning for BJP candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu. He said, "If there is any religion bigger than all, it is Christian brotherhood, and the smallest religion...the smallest child, that is the Sikh religion..."

These remarks have led to resentment within the Sikh community, with SGPC general secretary Gurcharan Singh Grewal strongly condemning it. He said Bony Ajnala's statement belittles Sikhism and undermines Sikh sentiments, adding that now even farmers would question BJP candidate Taranjit Singh Sandhu after this remark. Amarpal Singh Bony Ajnala joined the BJP in February 2023.

Meanwhile, following the backlash, BJP leader Bony Ajnala promptly apologised, releasing a video stating that his statement during a recent gathering was misrepresented. The BJP leader said he respected all religions and would continue to do so".
