Delhi Police summons Telangana CM over doctored video of Amit Shah; BJP denounces false allegations

Amit Shah doctored video: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has been summoned by the Delhi Police on Wednesday regarding a manipulated video allegedly portraying Home Minister Amit Shah advocating for the abolition of reservation quotas for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). besides, four others from Telangana have received notices to participate in the inquiry into the doctored video case.

The controversy erupted after the video surfaced on social media platforms, purportedly shared by the official handle of the Telangana Congress. Many party leaders reposted the video, alleging that it depicted the BJP's purported agenda to eliminate SC/ST reservation quotas. Prompted by complaints from the BJP and the Home Ministry, the Delhi Police initiated an investigation into the doctored video, registering a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Sections 153, 153A, 465, 469, and 171G of the IPC, along with Section 66C of the IT Act, were invoked by the police in response to the dissemination of the edited video. Efforts have been made to identify the accounts responsible for uploading and sharing the video, with notices issued to platforms like X and Facebook seeking relevant information.

The BJP has vehemently denounced the video as a distortion of Amit Shah's original statements made during a political rally. Party spokesperson Amit Malviya accused the Congress of spreading false information through the edited video, warning of potential repercussions for those involved in its dissemination. He said Amit Shah's remarks pertained to reservations based on religion, particularly in reference to Muslims, and not SC/ST or OBC quotas.

Amidst the controversy, Amit Shah reaffirmed the BJP-led NDA government's commitment to existing reservation policies for SCs, STs, and OBCs. He refuted allegations made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who accused the BJP of attempting to dismantle constitutional provisions safeguarding the rights of backward communities and Dalits. Amit Shah dismissed such claims as baseless, emphasising the BJP's unwavering support for reservation policies and accusing Rahul Gandhi of spreading misinformation.

In response to Rahul Gandhi's allegations, Amit Shah said the BJP had upheld reservation policies throughout its tenure in government, dispelling any notions of altering the country's Constitution to revoke reservation rights. He condemned Rahul Gandhi's assertions as falsehoods designed to mislead the public and reiterated the BJP's longstanding commitment to protecting the interests of marginalized communities.
