As BJP struggled in Punjab Municipal Election 2021, the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday said that it was inappropriate to link the result of MC election in Punjab with farmers' protest.
"It was inappropriate to link the result of MC election in Punjab with farmers' protest," he said, adding that "We were weak in Punjab and used to fight polls in alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal."

"But we fought separately this time, which caused losses to us," said Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
Farmers have been protesting against the Centre's farm laws 2020.

The farmers have been protesting against contentious farm laws 2020 i.e. Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Ever since the laws were passed by the Parliament during its Monsoon session, the government has been facing backlash in several parts of India.
On Thursday, farmers staged Rail Roko agitation against the legislations. Indian Railways stated that the agitation in India passed off without any untoward incident.
