India witnesses massive Covid surge, logs 18,819 new cases in 24 hours

New Delhi, June 30: India witnessed a massive rise in daily Covid-19 cases as it recorded nearly 19,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.



India logged 18,819 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry informed on Thursday. Meanwhile, the active caseload of the country crossed the one lakh mark. The total active Covid cases in India are now at 1,04,555.

The increase in cases has also affected several well-known names. Ajit Pawar and Chhagan Bhujbal, two figures from Maharashtra, were reported positive on Wednesday, while Simranjit Singh Mann, the leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), also has the coronavirus.

Data from the Union health ministry showed that 39 deaths were reported in India in the previous 24 hours, taking the death toll to 5,25,116.






As many as 13,827 patients recovered from the infection in the period of 24 hours. The country saw a jump of more than 4,000 cases with India reporting 14,506 new Covid cases the previous day.



The daily positivity rate in India was recorded at 4.16% on Thursday, while the recovery rate currently is 98.55 percent.




Out of the 86.23 crore Covid tests conducted in the country so far, 4,52,430 tests were done in the period of 24 hours. The weekly positivity rate in India is 3.72 percent.



As many as 14,17,217 Covid vaccines have been administered in the last 24 hours, under the nationwide vaccination campaign.
