Agra tragedy: Ambulance carrying pregnant woman gets stuck in pothole for two hours, baby dies

PTC News Desk: A pregnant woman’s unborn baby died after the ambulance taking her to hospital while she was in labour was allegedly stuck on a badly damaged road for nearly two hours. The incident took place in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on September 2.
The woman went into labour, following which her family called a government ambulance to take her to hospital. According to a complaint, the ambulance got stuck on a badly damaged village road while carrying her. As the vehicle could not move, local residents tied it to a tractor and pulled it out.
By the time the woman reached the hospital, the unborn baby was no longer responding and was declared dead, according to the complaint.
Videos shared on social media showed the ambulance being pulled by a tractor along the damaged road. India Today said it could not independently verify the video.
Later, Pradeep Kumar approached the authorities and sought action against those responsible for maintaining the road.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinod Kumar said the complaint was received during Tehsil Diwas on September 5 and had been forwarded to the Public Works Department for further action.
The incident also led to a political reaction from Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who blamed corruption for the baby’s death. He criticised the BJP government in a post on X.
Officials said on Monday that the incident is currently being investigated.
