Amravati Horror: Man arrested for exploiting minor girls through social media platforms, recording explicit videos
Police in Amravati have arrested Mohammad Ayaz for allegedly exploiting minor girls and recording explicit videos. Cyber Cell joins probe to trace digital evidence and possible links
PTC Web Desk: The police in Maharashtra’s Amravati district have arrested a man accused of sexually exploiting several minor girls and recording explicit videos, officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as Mohammad Ayaz, also known as Tanveer and a resident of Paratwada, was taken into custody after the matter was brought to authorities’ attention by Rajya Sabha MP Anil Bonde.
According to preliminary findings, the accused is suspected of targeting minor girls through social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Snapchat. Investigators believe he would initiate contact, build trust and lure the victims into relationships.
Police sources indicate that he may have taken some victims to cities like Mumbai and Pune, where he allegedly recorded explicit videos. These recordings were then reportedly used to threaten and blackmail the victims. Authorities are also examining whether any of the content was circulated online.
Following the complaint, the police acted swiftly and arrested the accused. He was produced before a court, which granted seven days of police custody.
Officials confirmed that a mobile phone belonging to the accused has been seized and is being analysed for digital evidence. The cyber cell has also been roped in to trace any online sharing of the alleged videos and to check for possible links to a larger network.
The investigation is being supervised by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Vishal Anand. Authorities are also considering setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly probe the case.
Police said efforts are ongoing to establish the exact number of victims and determine whether other individuals were involved.
