IPL 2026: BCCI issues notice to Rajasthan Royals manager over protocol breach
PTC News Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started looking into a case involving Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder for possibly breaking anti-corruption rules. Bhinder was seen using his phone in the team dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last Friday, while sitting next to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, causing a big controversy and even leading former IPL chairman Lalit Modi to call for action. According to a report, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has sent Bhinder a notice and asked him to explain within 48 hours why he was using his phone.
IPL Governing Council chairman Arun Dhumal said the ACSU has been asked to investigate the matter and submit a report.
"We have asked the ACSU to investigate and file a report on the incident," IPL Governing Council chairman Arun Dhumal said.
There are also reports that Bhinder may have used his phone due to health reasons. He has had serious health issues in the past, including being hospitalised for a long time in Nagpur due to a collapsed lung.
Although Bhinder is allowed to carry his phone in the dugout for medical reasons, he is not permitted to use it while sitting there without special approval.
The incident raised a few eyebrows as Bhinder was spotted sitting next to RR's teenage batting sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, in the dugout when he was found using his phone.
