Chandigarh bomb threat: Panic gripped Chandigarh on Monday after officials linked to the Ministry of External Affairs received a threatening email warning of multiple bomb blasts across the city, including the Regional Passport Office (RPO).

According to initial information, the email claimed that as many as 14 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) had been planted at various locations and could detonate around 1:15 pm. The message also contained disturbing and communal language, alleging that a specific religious community would be targeted.

The threatening email was reportedly sent early Monday morning from an unidentified ID and included official email addresses associated with the Chandigarh-based Regional Passport Office. The sender claimed affiliation with a group identifying itself as “Azad Dravid Nadu.”

Authorities said the email also referenced several political and law enforcement-related issues linked to Tamil Nadu, along with incidents concerning Bangladesh, expressing alleged grievances over police actions and administrative decisions.

Following the threat, the Chandigarh Police and other security agencies were immediately put on high alert. Intensive search operations were launched across key areas of the city, including government buildings and crowded public places. Bomb disposal squads and dog units were deployed as part of the precautionary measures.

Meanwhile, cybercrime teams have initiated a parallel investigation to trace the origin of the email and identify the sender. Technical surveillance and digital forensics are being used to track the IP address and location of the accused.

The police have urged citizens to remain calm and not fall prey to rumours or misinformation circulating on social media. Authorities also appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity immediately.
