Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and all other accused discharged in Delhi liquor policy case
The court delivered a sharp rebuke to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stating that claims of a larger conspiracy and criminal intent were not backed by material evidence.
PTC News Desk: Former Arvind Kejriwal and his former deputy Manish Sisodia were discharged in the Delhi excise policy case, after a Delhi court ruled that the prosecution failed to provide credible evidence to support its allegations.
The court delivered a sharp rebuke to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), stating that claims of a larger conspiracy and criminal intent were not backed by material evidence. It observed that serious allegations require solid proof and cannot be sustained without supporting material.
The judge noted that the documents and statements presented reflected administrative decision-making rather than criminal wrongdoing. The court also warned that unsupported allegations could undermine public confidence in constitutional offices.
While discharging Sisodia, the court said there was no material to suggest criminal intent on his part. It concluded that the prosecution’s case did not withstand judicial scrutiny and failed to establish wrongdoing.
Reacting to the verdict, Kejriwal described the case as the “biggest political conspiracy in independent India.” He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to remove the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from power in Delhi and said political interests should not override the Constitution.
The ruling marks a major development in the high-profile excise policy case, with the court concluding that the prosecution’s allegations lacked evidentiary support.
