Class 10 student killed after trying to stop fight outside government school in Shivamogga
Boy sustained multiple blows, including hits to his chest and collapsed at the spot
PTC Web Desk: A 16-year-old Class 10 student lost his life after allegedly being assaulted while attempting to break up a fight outside a government school in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district on Tuesday, the police said.
According to officials, the teenager had just attended a special class and was on his way home when he noticed a group of local boys engaged in a heated argument that soon turned violent. The victim, who reportedly knew one of the boys being attacked, stepped in to calm the situation. However, the group allegedly turned on him and began assaulting him.
Investigators said the boy sustained multiple blows, including hits to his chest and collapsed at the spot. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead by doctors. The other youth who was initially attacked is currently undergoing treatment, the police confirmed.
Superintendent of Police Nikhil stated that all those involved in the incident are minors from the same locality and had earlier studied at a nearby school. “They were known to each other. The victim tried to intervene when a quarrel escalated into violence. Unfortunately, he was assaulted and succumbed to his injuries before he could receive medical help,” the SP said.
The police have taken two minors into custody and are working to identify others allegedly involved in the assault. Investigators are relying on eyewitness accounts, including the statement of another minor who reportedly witnessed the incident.
While the exact cause of the quarrel is yet to be determined, preliminary findings suggest that the dispute may have arisen from a minor issue. Authorities have deployed additional police personnel in the area as a precautionary measure, though officials maintained that the situation remains under control.
Further investigation is underway.
