Class 11 student dies by suicide at private school in Faridabad; family blames teacher for harsh punishment

PTC News Desk: A 16-year-old Class 11 student allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the third floor of a private school in Faridabad, with her family accusing her teacher of subjecting the child to harsh punishment for nearly three hours. 

The incident took place at Navodaya Vidya Niketan Senior Secondary School on Dabua-Ghazipur Road. The student, identified as Jhanvi, was a resident of Dabua. She was taken to a private hospital with critical injuries and was later declared dead. 

Jhanvi's father claimed that a scuffle broke out in the classroom for eating biryani. Whiile she wasn't involved in the quarrel, yet the teacher punished her. She was forced to stand for several hours in the sun, which humiliated and traumatised her and drove her to die by suicide, he added.

The family alleged that the punishment had left Jhanvi deeply upset. However, the exact circumstances that led to her death are still being investigated.

School principal RK Sharma denied that Jhanvi had been punished. He said she had left the classroom after taking permission to use the washroom and later went to the third floor of the building.

After receiving information about the incident, police from Dabua police station reached the school and inspected the spot. Investigators are questioning the school management, teachers, students and Jhanvi's family to understand what happened.

Police said the exact circumstances surrounding her death will be known once the investigation is completed.
