Mamata Banerjee's niece found dead at her residence, family says was suffering from depression
PTC News Desk: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's niece was found dead at her residence in Birbhum on Tuesday, police said.
The body of Bristi Mukherjee, 28, was recovered from a room on the second floor of her house at Kusumba village in Rampurhat this afternoon. The cause of the death has not been ascertained yet.
Soon after receiving the information, police sent the body for post mortem examination to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital. “The circumstances leading to the death will be established after the post-mortem and other procedural inquiries,” a senior police officer said.
According to her family, Mukherjee had been dealing with depression for the past few years and was receiving treatment. They said she had also lost her job after the Supreme Court cancelled the recruitment of teachers in government-aided schools over alleged irregularities.
Mukherjee had earlier been accused of getting the teaching job illegally in connection with the recruitment case.
Local reports also stated that divorce proceedings between Mukherjee and her husband were in progress.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
