Cyclone Michaung: Over 500 Indigo flights cancelled after heavy rain
PTC News Desk: Cyclone Michaung forced the Chennai airport to shut down, leading to the cancellation of thousands of flights due to heavy rain. IndiGo had to cancel 550 flights and Vistara cancelled 10 flights from Chennai yesterday.
The rain has stopped, and Chennai is now struggling to drain the floodwaters as the cyclone approaches Andhra Pradesh.
Due to bad weather, Chennai airport closed its runway for departures and arrivals yesterday. Around noon, IndiGo resumed flights from Chennai.
Cyclone Michaung has been dumping heavy rain on Chennai since Sunday night, submerging the city and cancelling trains and flights. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Andhra Pradesh within the next few hours.
The airport in Visakhapatnam is currently closed.
IndiGo also cancelled 60 flights today and has 15 aircraft parked in Chennai (10 A-320/321 and five ATR). These planes were grounded after the Chennai airport was closed due to flooding.
