PTC News Desk: The Delhi government on Thursday announced two days of work from home a week in all the government offices days after PM Modi appealed to save fuel and exercise wise spending.

The government also said that 50% of official meetings will now be held online to cut travel and fuel use.

The order also stated that the timings of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will also be altered in order to reduce traffic congestion and fuel consumption during peak hours.

The Delhi government also plans to launch a campaign to encourage citizens to contribute towards fuel saving and responsible consumption.

The government has also decided to reduce the use of official vehicles. Petrol limits allotted to officers have been cut by 20%, bringing the monthly cap down from 200 litres. The government also announced that it will not purchase any new vehicle for another six months.

In order to promote public transport, the government said that it will also observe a no-car day and will urge people to opt for Metro at lease once a week.

The measures have been announced days after the Prime Minister urged the citizens to reduce fuel consumption, postpone non-essential purchases such as gold, and avoid avoidable foreign travel as part of efforts to protect India’s foreign exchange reserves.
