Vijay govt announces 2 % DA hike for government employees, teachers in Tamil Nadu
PTC News Desk: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay announced on Thursday a 2 % hike in dearness allowance (DA) for government employees and teachers. With the revision, the DA has been increased from 58 per cent to 60 per cent with effect from January 1, 2026, according to an official release.
The hike will lead to an additional annual expenditure of ₹1,230 crore for the state government.
The Chief Minister’s Office announced the decision on social media.
It wrote, “Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru. S. Joseph Vijay announces that the dearness allowance, currently at 58 percent for government officials and teachers, will be increased to 60 percent effective from 01.01.2026”.
The statement said the government will provide the extra funds needed for the Dearness Allowance (DA) hike, highlighting its commitment to the welfare of government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners. It also noted that government staff and teachers play an important role in designing and successfully implementing welfare schemes for the public.
Vijay has said that his administration will function as a “government of the common people” and will focus on “social justice, equal opportunity, and secularism.”
The government also announced that the monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 for women beneficiaries will continue without interruption until the new administration increases the amount to the promised ₹2,500.
Vijay chaired a meeting with the finance secretary and senior Secretariat officials to make sure that the ₹1,000 assistance scheme, which was introduced during the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, is credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts on Friday.
