PTC News Desk: The national capital received a brief spell of rain, providing relief from the heat. The pre-monsoon rain was accompanied by strong winds, which lowered the temperature in Delhi.

The dust storm in the evening followed a scorching sunny afternoon in which the temperature reached around 35 degrees Celsius.

"A dust storm followed by a thunderstorm with rain and gusty winds, with speeds ranging from 40 to 70 kmph, is expected to occur over and adjoining areas of entire Delhi and NCR within the next 2 hours," the IMD stated.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 22.6 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of year, and the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 38 degrees Celsius.

According to the Met Office, four to eight heatwave days are expected across the country in April, compared to the normal one to three days. Heatwaves are expected to last ten to twenty days, compared to four to eight days on average during the April-June period. The extreme heat can strain power grids and cause water shortages in parts of India.
