Delhi-NCR gets relief from heat as heavy rain, thunderstorms sweep region; alert issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next two days, warning of continued rainfall and thunderstorm activity in parts of Delhi-NCR
Delhi-NCR rain update: Heavy rain accompanied by strong thunderstorms swept across several parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday, bringing much-needed relief from the intense heat that had gripped the region for the past few days. Dark clouds covered the sky as gusty winds and showers lowered temperatures across the national capital and its adjoining areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the next two days, warning of continued rainfall and thunderstorm activity in parts of Delhi-NCR.
In Noida, strong winds were witnessed before rain lashed several localities. According to the IMD, the city is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky along with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers until June 6.
Meanwhile, the IMD officially declared the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala on Thursday, marking the beginning of India's four-month rainy season. The arrival comes three days later than the department's earlier forecast.
On May 15, the weather office had predicted that the monsoon would reach Kerala around May 26, with a possible variation of four days on either side. The southwest monsoon is crucial for India's agriculture sector and overall economic activity, as it provides the majority of the country's annual rainfall.
