DK Shivkumar takes oath as Karnataka Chief Minister, G Parameshwara is his deputy
PTC News Desk: DK Shivkumar has taken oath as Karnataka Chief Minister, marking a formal transition in the state government. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Lok Bhavan with senior Congress leaders, party workers in attendance.
Shivkumar's swearing-in comes days after Siddaramaiah stepped down as chief minister and paved way for change of guard within Congress-led administration in Karnataka.
Moments before the swearing-in ceremony, the outgoing and incoming leaders shared the stage, symbolising a smooth transition of power within the Congress-led government. Their joint appearance underscored a coordinated handover as Karnataka entered a new phase under Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.
Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader G Parameshwara took oath as Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister. Parameshwara took the oath in the name of Dr BR Ambedkar, invoking the architect of the Indian Constitution as he assumed office. His induction into the new Cabinet marks a key appointment in the D K Shivakumar-led government.
During the oath-taking ceremony, ‘Vande Mataram’ was recited at Lok Bhavan marking a ceremonial moment as newly formed Congress-led government took charge in the state.
Senior Congress leaders K J George and M B Patil were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru. Their inclusion strengthens the first Council of Ministers under Shivakumar, with both leaders expected to play important roles in the new administration.
A day before taking office, Shivakumar thanked Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for their support throughout his political career.
He said Sonia Gandhi had placed her trust in him from the very beginning and recalled being appointed Karnataka Congress president under her leadership. Shivakumar expressed gratitude to the Gandhi family and the party high command for their confidence in him during his rise within the Congress party.
