Malviya Nagar fire tragedy: Eight of family who rented Delhi Hotel to visit ailing father killed in blaze
PTC News Desk: The tragic fire at a hotel in South Delhi's Malviya Nagar, which killed 21 people, has devastated an Aggarwal family from Gurugram. Eight members of the family, spanning two generations, lost their lives in the incident.
The family had been staying at the hotel so they could remain close to the hospital where their elderly family head was receiving treatment. In total, 21 people, including nine Indians and 12 foreign nationals, died in the fire. The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
Those who lost their lives from the Aggarwal family included 48-year-old Vivek Aggarwal, his wife Tarjni Aggarwal, their daughters Jivisha (Angel) and Varya (Pearl), as well as Jhaveri, Ashok Aggarwal, Kamla Aggarwal and Prem Lata Aggarwal.
The family, residents of Sector 46 in Gurugram, had checked into the Flourish Stay B&B because Vivek's father, Radheshayam Aggarwal, was undergoing treatment for a lung-related illness at Max Hospital in Saket. In his 80s and unwell for some time, Radheshayam was admitted to the hospital, and the family chose to stay nearby so they could look after him.
Sadly, that decision turned tragic when a fire broke out at the hotel around 8:30 am. According to officials, the flames rapidly spread through the five-storey building, which had only one entry and exit point, permanently sealed windows, and a sensor-operated main door, making escape extremely difficult for those trapped inside.
