Delhi-NCR witnesses thunderstorm and heavy rain; IMD issues three-day alert till March 21
Abrupt shift in weather brings temporary relief from rising temperatures, offering a noticeable dip in heat levels across region
PTC Web Desk: Dark clouds loomed over the Delhi-NCR region as sudden weather changes triggered thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across several areas, including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Greater Noida on Thursday evening. Strong winds accompanied by lightning and thunder disrupted normal life, causing inconvenience to commuters during peak office hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), wind speeds are expected to range between 40 to 50 kmph over the next few hours, with a possibility of lightning strikes and hailstorms in isolated areas. The abrupt shift in weather has brought temporary relief from rising temperatures, offering a noticeable dip in heat levels across the region.

Experts believe that the ongoing spell of rain will not only make the weather more pleasant but also contribute to improving the Air Quality Index (AQI), which often remains a concern in the region. Cleaner air and reduced pollution levels are expected as rainfall helps settle dust particles and pollutants.
Meanwhile, traffic movement in several parts of the NCR was affected due to waterlogging and reduced visibility, adding to the challenges faced by daily commuters. Residents have been urged to stay updated with weather advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse conditions.
